Negotiate a payment plan with your veterinarian. If you are a respected customer, they may be happy to work out a weekly or monthly payment plan. A veterinarian you've never been to can not agree with such a plan.
Advise your veterinarian to perform a service such as kennel cleaning, answering machine, or other work instead of cash.
Get a second opinion. You pay a consultation fee, but another vet may have other, less expensive treatments for your pet.
Use a vet in a cheaper area. Veterinarians in smaller cities usually charge lower fees.
Take a look at the local veterinary schools. Many operate low-cost clinics for clients with limited income. The veterinary schools are listed by state on the American Veterinary Medical Association website and at VeterinarySchools.com.

Many vets accept Care Credit, a credit card specifically for healthcare spending, including your pet. Care Credit offers several payment options that can help you manage your pet's crisis.
